Pretty? No. But this is what cancer looks like, and these pictures could help you spot it. "The earlier you can catch skin cancer, the easier it is to cure," says Casey Gallagher, M.D., a dermatologist in Boulder, Colorado. Compare your moles to these images (all slightly larger than actual size), and see a doctor if you find anything suspicious. Healthy moles are often uniform in color with smooth borders. Still, any bump that changes should be checked. The irregular border and haphazard coloring are red flags. This mole needs to be watched closely. These cancers can look crusty or like an open sore. BCC is the most common form of skin cancer. BCC may also look pearly or translucent, in colors like pink, red or white.
