Christina Hendricks confesses her big breast secret

Friday, September 9, 2011

Christina Hendricks is the only celebrity I've ever heard grown women squeal over. Bring her up in conversation, and suddenly it's, "OMG, I LOVE HER!!! She's gorgeous. Amazing. Ahhhhhh!" Not even Angelina Jolie gets that kind of reaction most of the time.

More from The Stir: Would You Get Breast Implants for a Guy?

You know why? Because on the spectrum of realistic Hollywood body types, she's a bit closer to us. So, we think we could realistically look like Christina Hendricks. Why? Well, it may take a push-up bra or implants to get her breasts, but other than that, she looks like she eats. (Thank God. Because we sure do eat!)

We may wonder if her bust itself is real or fake ... but Hendricks seems to have had enough of that question.

She recently set the record straight with The Daily Mail:

It's so bizarre that people are constantly asking if my breasts are real or fake. They're so obviously real that anyone who's ever seen or touched a breast would know.

As bizarre as it is to her to have people wondering whether she got them under the knife, it's evenmore bizarre for most of us to contemplate a woman naturally having those breasts on a tall, slender frame. She has a rockin' body, which she clearly owns (and that's awesome!), but it's anything but average.

When faced with the news that there's been a sharp rise in breast augmentation, because women want that enviable cup-that-runneth-over, Hendricks said:

I hope I'm not encouraging that. If there's anything to be learned from me it's that I'm learning to celebrate what I was born with, even though it's sometimes been inconvenient. Having larger breasts has made it harder for me to shop throughout the years, but I've learnt to love it.

Sadly, it seems, the beauty of Hendricks -- a woman who has learned to celebrate what she was born with -- gets lost on women who run to their plastic surgeons for breast augmentations.

Also, it's about damn time someone tell the truth about big breasts! Her breasts may be enviable, aspirational, whatever -- but they're not all they're cracked up to be! Large breasts can lead to all kinds of issues -- like, Christina explains, making it harder to fit into clothes you love or triggering back pain or other body aches. There's no doubt having them can take a physical and emotional toll. I'll bet even Christina has at one point considered a breast reduction. I have friends who have actually gone through with that surgery, because their "girls" (while delightful to men) were a pain in the bust!

The lesson here couldn't be any clearer: Instead of running around girl-crushing it out on Hendricks, because we wish we could look like her, we should love her for other reasons. Like her candor, her grace, charm, poise, and honest, healthy body image. Because we're all just as beautiful -- big breasts or not.

Do you agree with what Christina says about the inconvenience of larger breasts?
